Momella Route Overview

The Momella Route is the only established path to the summit of Mount Meru (4,566m). This 4-day trek through Arusha National Park combines wildlife encounters with dramatic volcanic scenery, culminating in a spectacular summit ridge walk along the crater rim.

Mount Meru is perfect as a standalone trek or as acclimatization before Kilimanjaro. The first day passes through forest inhabited by buffalo, giraffes, and colobus monkeys — an armed ranger accompanies all groups. The summit ridge is one of Africa's most dramatic walks, with sheer drops into the volcanic crater.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

• Day 1: Momella Gate (1,500m) to Miriakamba Hut (2,514m) — Forest with wildlife
• Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut (3,566m) — Moorland and crater views
• Day 3: Summit night — Saddle Hut to Socialist Peak (4,566m) and descent to Miriakamba
• Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Momella Gate
